Reflection of internal waves from a sloping boundary

30/04/2015 Keshav Raja

Internal waves are of importance mainly because of their capacity to fluid mixing, especially in the deep ocean where motions are generally dominated by these waves. Vertical mixing of water mass has important role in ocean circulation and climate. Interaction of internal waves with the bottom topography is one of the processes that lead to mixing and transport in the ocean. Waves also induce an irreversible mean flow when propagating in a dissipative medium. Mixing and wave induced mean flow may be considered as the processes that transfer wave induced energy to smaller and larger scales respectively. The present project attempts to quantify the mixing and wave induced mean flow when internal waves reflect from a slope.
