The propagation of gravity currents develops generally over complex boundaries in several natural fields. In particular, density currents can propagate up a slope as the salty water tongue flowing up the estuary at the mouth of rivers. To this aim, laboratory experiments on lock-release density currents were conducted at the Hydraulics laboratory of the University Roma Tre and two parameters, i.e. the bottom upslope and the depth-ratio of dense and ambient fluids, were varied in order to investigate their effect on the current dynamics. In this talk the leading dynamics of mild and steep up sloping bottoms and their implications for the entrainment parameterization will be discuss.
